Who is the Dye Goddess?
My name is Carol Roi Olsen. I live on beautiful Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound across the water from downtown Seattle Washington. After spending the majority of my growing up years in the desert, I feel like this place is paradise.
I started quilting about 13 years ago when my husband at the time was spending a lot of time traveling for business. Shortly after that I found a small book on dyeing fabric and started some experimenting. I soon found that I really like the dyeing process. In fact, I liked the dyeing and quilting better than I did the husband, so he left and I started a new life. For about 5 years I had a small business selling hand-dyed fabrics at local quilt shows. It was a lot of fun and I met a LOT of really nice people. Aren't quilters the BEST?
Unfortunately, I also had a more than full time job, writing software for people. I decided that being a software geek was probably more lucrative than fabric dyeing, so I went off to write software and make a pile of money, so that eventually I could do what I really wanted to do without trying to keep a full time job, too.
So, why dye goddess? Well, on the last day of work, a bunch of us were sitting around the computer and discussing my new venture. I said I needed a catchy name for a web site and someone suggested Quilt Goddess. The name was already taken, even though there wasn't much of a site yet. Since I think I have more fun dyeing than quilting, I decided that maybe Dye Goddess was more appropriate anyway. So DyeGoddess.com it is.
