Hearts

Hearts was instigated by an invitation to a show. I had been working very hard on a "real job" to try to save enough money to do what I really wanted to do, which was make quilts. Unfortunately, the real job saps all your strength for anything else, especially when there is a four hour commute involved. When I received the invitation, I was motivated to do something very different. I had been saving strips of fabric from the times when I dyed fabric to sell. The fabric was packaged in 1/4 yard packages and I would cut off the selvages with a rotary cutter. I have a huge box of these selvages. These were placed on top and stitched down with free motion stitching. The hearts were added, and a large heart of yarn couched on top was added to the overall quilt. I had fun making the quilt and it motivated me to get moving on my dream. The quilt is very colorful and playful. Unfortunately, it didn't make it into the show.
