Tranquility
Size 58" x 47"
I was challenged to produce a quilt of silk. I had never worked with silk before and my immediate reaction was to buy some ready-to-dye silk fabric and dye it. I was familiar with dyeing cotton, but the procedure for silk was somewhat different. I had to do some research and experimentation to produce these results.
The design of this quilt was based on some "doodles" and "scribbles". I worked impulsively, completing one step before proceeding to the next. The addition of specialty yarns, threads and beads have added a new dimension to my work. I rarely do much work by hand, but the beading proved to be relaxing and fun.
This piece is machine pieced of mostly silk fabrics hand-dyed by the artist. It is machine quilted with rayon thread, and embellished with beads, yarns and machine embroidery.
