Silken Leaves
Size 42" x 39"
I was challenged to produce a quilt of silk. The silks I used in this piece had all been purchased while on a trip to Europe in 1994. Since the silk piece might go to Europe, it seemed appropriate to use that particular silk fabric.
The design of this quilt was based on some experiments I had done using the hexagon shape and producing a spiral effect from the center out. In order to make the colors connect as they do the fabrics and their relative positions had to be based on the fabrics next to it. It was technically a difficult piece to do.
This piece is machine pieced entirely of silk fabrics, using a technique called paper or foundation piecing. It is machine quilted.
