Printed Circuit Board
Size 46" x 50"
In 1992 I quit my software engineering job to pursue my art on a full time basis. I had been working very closely with printed circuit boards, also called PCBs, cables, connectors, and many other hardware components. I decided to make a quilt, which was to be my last interface to the computer world at this low component level. Because of the way PCBs are constructed, series of parallel lines run over the boards connecting al the components on the board. To the uninitiated the parallel lines make absolutely no sense, but they are aesthetically very interesting. I chose the striped fabrics to represent the etched parallel lines connecting the components of the quilt. The quilting stitch is copper colored and shaped like many of the connectors that the tie the PCBs together.
The quilt is machine pieced of cotton prints and machine quilted with metallic thread.
