Latticeworks II

Size 66" x 54"

This is second in a series of quilts utilizing a simple block, which can be colorized to achieve three-dimensional effects in two-dimensional space. When the blocks are placed in this configuration the overall image is of two lattice grids, one overlaying the other. The foreground grid is colored with a predictable pattern of fuchsia to blue. The background grid is colored with the bright unexpected yellow and other more subdued colors. The background gradations add to the overall dimensionality of the piece. While constructing this piece, I was fascinated by the sensual change of the same color when it was placed next to the dark gray, for example, and then in a different area of the quilt it is placed next to the lightest gray.

This piece was constructed by machine of all cotton fabrics, many of which were hand-dyed by myself. This quilt was then machine quilted with cotton and metallic threads.
