Chaotic Cosmos

Size 41" x 48"

During a workshop I became extremely frustrated at my efforts to complete the projects requested by the instructor. Instead of performing the "required" project I swept up the pile of scraps from the previous exercises and started building a spiral on the work wall. I liked the effect and started piecing it in a random fashion. As the instructor asked "what this has to do with the exercise" I proudly said "absolutely nothing!". It was a very freeing experience. Later when I completed the top, it looked like a view into space with a spiraling galaxy. The gold stars seemed the appropriate quilting motif.

This quilt was machine pieced of cotton fabrics, some hand-dyed by myself, and machine quilted with metallic gold thread making free-motion stars.
